you would not receive any answer other that those? No, you are not really looking for the real answer. First, America is such that she contains a large number of folks from every nation and there will always be a certain number that retain their home country's patriotism and they have to be observed closely.. Second , there are Judases within our ranks who would have no trouble with killing 3000 Americans and doing billions of dollars of damage to pocket some change-- or just for the fun of it. Third , the enemy is always looking for a weakness. If he believes we will quit after he terrorizes us enough, then he will do what it takes... Terrorists only have to be right once-- we have to be right all the time to prevent them and that may appear to you to be restricting civil liberties especially if you are a criminal or one of the America haters that we are watching--- Are you?

The majority of Americans did not oppose WWII. There were not anti war protests and no martial law.

None of those reasons. The reason is that American are a paranoid people with little understanding of other cultures (i.e. the Japanese during WW-2 and the ideas of the Japanese-Americans).

Officially it would be no.3. They'd do it to keep an eye on the enemy, and to scare people who may wish to follow the enemy.
