I'm feeling down right now. I was going to ask a similar question but decided to read some questions first. Yours was the first one I saw.

When I'm down, these things usually cheer me up:

1. Being at the lake. I LOVE being around bodies of water.
2. When I had a dog, I'd play with him. He never failed to make me laugh and lift my spirits.

This may sound strange, but when I'm down and see no way to resolve my issue, I'll sometimes throw a sad party. I switch off the lights, light a candle, uncork a bottle of wine, and listen to songs like "Let Me Down Easy" (the Isley Brothers), "Only Time" (Enya), "Rainy Days and Mondays" (the Carpenters), "She's Out of My Life" (Michael Jackson), or "Why" (Annie Lennox). Or I might watch "As Good As It Gets," "Friday," or "Under the Tuscan Sun." I usually feel much better the next morning.

There are a few things worth remembering when we're feeling down. First, things will change. The agony we're experiencing right now won't last forever. Second, we shouldn't do anything that will make the situation worse ... or that will create a NEW problem. Finally, we must always remember adversity is a part of life. So, we need to find an effective--and non-destructive--way of coping (with it).
