Yes, Agnew resigned and Nixon appointed Ford. Then Nixon resigned and Ford became president and pardoned Nixon.

Many theorize that Agnew was "caught back on", forced to resign in utter disgrace, so the "good ol' boy" Gerald Ford (who really hit one for the team with his JFK Warren Commission work) could be smoothly brought in as VP.

And theories continue on saying as Agnew got his issue, so did Nixon---in a move to put Ford in the President's chair.

Interesting note: Ford ordered a secret mid-Western Army bio-warfare testing facility closed and ALL laboratory created viruses inventoried and properly handled. One batch of a highly top secret lab made virus CAME UP MISSING and was, on report, never recovered. Eight years later, HIV/AIDS popped up in the gay San Francisco area--and rapidly began spreading!!!

He could not do that. The line of succession from the president is Vicepresident and then Speaker of the House. That is how Gerald Ford became President
