How can you get hardware to be recognized in windows xp?

If you re-installed the drivers, and the hardware was working and being recognized by your computer prior to that.

Some peripherals need to be detected by BIOS first before Windows could detect them. Others need the driver installed first before you plug in the device. Many USB devices are supported by Win XP SP2 and are simply plug and play.
