What substance in the blood controls the rate of respiration?

The amount of CO2 [ carbon dioxide ] in the blood stimulates the receptors in the brain that control respiratory rate.
If it is high, the rate will increase to exhale more CO2. If it is low, the rate will slow down.
Respiratory rate can also be affected by fever, cold, drugs, or anything that affects your entire body.

It is simply controled by the level of carbon dioxide in the blood..... Easy as that!

The only think I can think of is either Carbon dioxide or Oxygen concentration.
