That's OK. Just try to avoid starting sentences with "It." You should always state what the "it" is, rather than just using "it." And NEVER start a sentence with "and" (like I just did!) or "but."

Hope this helps!

Yes, it is okay to start a sentence with the letter "A". Just don't start any of your sentences with the words"But" and "And". The reason you don't is because it is improper language, on some occasion you can start a sentence with "but" and "and" but only if you need to in you sentence, paragraph, essay, and more. Read some books and you can see how they sometimes add those words in the beginning, but they use those words because it is still on the same topic and it gives there story or paragraph a little more detail.

What you have written is not a complete sentence, so it isn't correct, but that is not because it begins with an 'A'
A well known writer, James Mitchener, frequently starts sentences with 'A', because that is the logical way to start many sentences.
A good example of when to use 'A' to start a sentence can be found by reading your morning newspaper, reading magazines, or reading books. It's done all the time.

You can start a sentence with "a."

Another example where you can use it is when you start the sentence with a dependent clause.

Example: A sign of good luck, the boy quickly picked up the heads-up quarter before anyone noticed.

You sure can start a sentence with "a" but in this sentence you should write "the" because "second" is an ordinal number, and one has to use "the" with it.
