You need to keep it on the streets, and compete in freestyles. Work your way up - don't compete in a big freestyle contest for your first one. There are also online freestyles, if you want.
Make sure you know the code of the streets, listen to some Ghetto Boyz, Chain Gang, Three 6 Mafia (2003ish to present) and 50 Cent.
And when you sell records, do not turn commercial or try to turn into a pop star, or some dumb b.s. like ludacris did.

I used to rap professionally at Nordstrom. It is very seasonal work, usually just around the Christmas rush. Oh wait, you said rapping, not wrapping...

the best rappers spend up to 10 hours a day practicing. It does not happen by accident. You need to get in a group of rappers and practice with them.
