I'm a tall, skinny white boy who can't dance. I'm in grade 11, and I've only gone to one dance (grade 9), where I sat bymyslef. I danced one slow dance, but I don't know how to dance during the inbetween songs. I want to go to the dances next year, but I need help worse than the 40 year old virgin!

My problem isn't self confidence. I've been in a fashion show for German class, infront of 100+ people, and I was wearing a short skirt, tanktop, homemade high heels (can't seem to find them size 13) and a blond wig. I honestly am just very bad at dancing.

Also, I have very hairy legs so the short skirt had an added, "flair," for lack of a better word.

Relax: lots of white dudes can't dance:). Seriously, if you can find the primary beat of a song you can sway back and forth to it. Once you find the primary beat of a song and can sway back and forth to it, the next step is stepping to the left and the right on the beat. I'm a black woman who had no rhythm whatsoever until I spent years learning to dance (although part of that is because I'm partially deaf). If you want to polish up those dance basics you can take a social dance class at your local community or recreation center.

I don't really know what advice to give you i am pretty sure you are not that bad - most ppl aren't bad they just have no self confidence - when you go out there and you see those ppl in the center of those circles most of them probably think they suck at dancing but they don't care what every one else thinks - if you just let ur self go and dance it will all fit into place and u will have so much fun not worrying if any one else thinks ur a good dancer or not
well have fun be ur self and GOOD LUCk
ps hope i helped!!!

Okay weirdo, I tell you to be ashamed of yourself and now you're my fan.

As for dancing I assume you're too lame to sneak a few drinks in first, but that would help. The second guys was right, just try to follow the bass or drums of the song and move your hips to that, keep your arms moving, but slow, subtle movements. One thing (and excuse the stereotyping) is find a black guy and imitate his moves, if there's not a lot of black folk at your school, just copy the guy that isn't dancing like a 16 year old white kid. Make sure he's not too far from you.

It's all about rhythm though.

To some of us, dancing is an acquired skill. It sounds like you don't dance because you don't know how. Advise to copy other people doesn't work for everyone and doesn't take you very far anyway. You should consider taking classes. Any classes like hip hop, salsa, jazz - anything that teaches you to move your body, legs and arms to music.

I can't tell ya how to dance, cuz i suck too. Bit you could just keep practicing, watch MTV or rent music videos or something, i know in order to really get into it, the music needs to be loud enough to feel it in your soul then you body will get in sync with the music.
And try going to a club and watching other people.
