I failed to explain the situation in detail. We like to go swimming at night, but the bats fly down to the water, and we are afraid they are going to hit us. I need a solution to stop them from flying into the pool so that we can swim at night, which is a great time to do so, if the bats were not out.

The problem is that the bats are going after the bugs that are skimming the water... which is actually a very good thing.

If you are not swimming at night but want to enjoy the outdoors place a cover over the pool. Also try placing bug lamps at the other end of the yard to draw them away from you. If you are swimming the only thing you can really do is try to draw them to another location, ie the bug lamp.

Also there are floating citronella candles that you can purchase. I however think that they do not work.

There are some outdoor nets you can purchase to use at night while you swim, but they are expensive and can cause more problems then they are really worth.

Overall though do not worry about the bats flying into you. I grew up in a pool and swimming at night was one of my favorite things to do. The bats were always skimming the pool and not once were any of us hit. If you have bats in your area that are flying by radar (not all bats use it) they know the difference between you and their prey and they are very swift in changing courses. That is not to say it is not impossible, but extremely rare nonetheless.

The bats are not going to hit you....they know exactly where you are and will avoid you...their echolocation allows them to do this. They are just eating bugs...not trying to fly into you. Let them be. If they hit the water to the point where they end up in the pool itself..they will be able to swim and then fly out of it.

I expect they are attracted to insects which are attracted to the water. You didn't say what kind of pool, a swimming pool or a fish pond, but some sort of fountain to agitate the water or a bug zapper might get rid of the bugs and solve your problem. .

They wont hit you, just enjoy them, they use sonar to locate and capture their prey. Most likely they are attracted to bugs hovering right around the waterline of the pool so get rid of them and get rid of the bats.

You would have to used a mist net. Which would mean you would have to retrieve the bats out of the net. Then either kill it or catch it the release it somewhere else.

But why? The bats are eating all those bugs that would be bothering you otherwise. Just be thankful that you have one of natures wonders working for your benefit.

You could try tying wires up near the pool, I heard it keeps birds and bats away.

Or get a pool cover.

With their radar, I really do not think they will fly into you or the water.
