I hear all this crap about Elvis, but I don't really believe it. I'd like to hear other opinions.

Theatrics - Elvis
Artistic - Dylan

Elvis was the first rocker to make a splash on national TV, the Ed Sullivan Show in 1956, eight years before The Beatles appearance on the show. Elvis's genius was his performances. He was a pure entertainer.

Dylan on the other hand was a folk artist in 1962. He wow! his audience with poetic weaving of words. It was only a few years later, he picked up an electric guitar and turned to rock n' roll and mixed in his poetry. Dylan's genius is his wordsmith. He's a poet.

So you have the entertainer and the poet. I guess it's a matter of taste like red or white wine.

I think Elvis did more for the foundations of rock than Dylan, but I'd put Dylan high on that list as well, maybe 2nd or 3rd with The Rolling Stones.

No doubt Elvis was great, he was the King, but I think he was a bit overrated. I think Bob Dylan has much more variety than Elvis did, and he was much more modest about his Rock N' Roll. Elvis basked in the glory a bit much. I'm with you all the way, Elvis gets way too much attention. Hope this helps!!

As far as today's music, I'd have to say Dylan. Elvis was by far the king of rock, but I don't hear much rock anymore. I do hear Dylan in a lot of alternative rock these days, however.

I even have large appreciate for Dylan yet he each now and then thinks too notably of his comments. I agree that the Stones are large yet there are bands and musicians who've had a plenty bigger impact. As for the tracing each thing returned to them, it form of feels to me a splash exaggerated. i would not even think of of tracing music returned to the Stones in the previous thinking of Louis Armstrong, Elvis or The Beatles. however, Bob Dylan is right in his very own way, it incredibly is basically opinion no count if he (or every physique) thinks it incredibly is reality or no longer. i'm confident it is basically his way of asserting "i like the Rolling Stones" interior the way that makes Dylan who he's. I guess if he quite had to have a valid argument he could dig deeper and placed reality and reason into what he says. (or he could desire to easily say what he needs because of the fact he's Bob Dylan)

It is Elvis, he was the one who messed country and blues to make the rock sound mainsteam.
Bob Dylan was an folk artist who crossed over to rock, after many rock bands have established the rock sound we already know.
