I have a sony vaio... go to their website and order some recovery discs (pretty cheap) and install them. The computer will start over like it's new and never been used.

Well you can order the disks or you can (if you know any one that has the same Operating System, i.e. Windows XP Home Service Pack 1. And if there is a Windows Product code on the bottom of the laptop) then you could install windows with that disk and use your code. But remember the CD has to be the same as the sticker on your laptop, windows XP Home SP2 for a green label or XP Home SP1 for a blue label. Same goes for pro. That is what I often use for my friends when they don't have the right CDs. Or a password recovery software if anyone knows where to get one?
Or another thing is to boot into safe mode and hope that the Administrator account is not password protected to and then go in there and delete the password and create a new account for you if you want.
To get into safe mode you want to press F8 right before you see splash screen for windows. Then select safe mode.

I would format and reinstall Windows.
-----------------------------------
Windows Lost Password tips.
http://www.hsinlin.com/tips/lost_password.html
Lost User Passwords. (Windows XP)
If you have lost or forgotten a user account password in Win XP, simply log in as the computer administrator, and go to control panel, user accounts. Here you will be able to reset the password for any of the systems user accounts.
Lost Administrator Password. (Windows XP)
Slightly more work needed if you lose or forget the Windows XP administrator password.
First reboot Windows XP in safe mode by re-starting the computer and pressing F8 repeated as the computer starts up. Then (in safe mode) click Start and then click Run. In the open box type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes - I have just used quotes to differentiate what you have to type.
You will now have access to all the user accounts, including the administrators account and will be able to reset the lost password.
Just click the administrators user account, and then click Reset Password.
You will need to add a new password in the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and confirm by clicking OK.
All done, you have recovered the lost adminitrators password!
