Of course, being a direct descendant of Mary Queen of Scots means you were also born on the wrong side of the blanket as well. According to Ancestry.com, but certainly unverified, I am a direct descendant of Mary Stuart (b. 1651), the daughter of Charles II and one of his many mistresses, Lucy Walter (1630-1658). Since Charles II is the grandson of James I, who was Mary Queen of Scots' only child, that would possibly make me a direct descendant of her as well. Curiously enough, if Ancestry.com is correct, one of Mary's descendants married an ancestor of a Scot transported to the American Colonies, a John Macquarrie, who fought for Bonnie Prince Charles at the Battle of Cullodeen.
But back to Lucy and her daughter: Charles recognized Lucy's son, James, who became the Duke of Monmouth; however, he never officially recognized Mary, even if he supported her the rest of his life. Alternate dads for Mary include Theobald Taafle, first Earl of Carlingford, and Henry Bennett, first Earl of Arlington--Lucy was a 17th-century version of a bimbo, btw. Her daughter, Mary, married a commoner, William Sarsfield, and so did most of her descendants, although a Lavinia Binham married a George John Spencer. If that surname sounds vaguely familiar, that's because Mary and Charles' 8th great granddaughter was Lady Diana Spencer.

She is my ancestor also, along with Mary Tudor, James I, Charles I, and Charles II. I am also guessing I am directly descended from Henry VII as Mary Tudor was his daughter. I am guessing this line came from an illegitimate son of Charles II, as that is also how I am related to him.
