In my trade (marine woodwork, specifically), most people are leery of epoxies other than West System. I know that this is because of decades of reliability, and uncertainty of the newer products. I have played around with other epoxies, and have found nothing to suggest inferior performance. It does seem to me that West System has a less 'harsh' catalyst than other kinds that I have tried. Some of the catalysts are downright intoxicating. I would prefer to stay sober on the job.
Just curious what people think.
Thanks.

I have used West Systems extensively and would not take a chance on anything else. I have never had a problem or disapointment with West.

I have found that the West system the curing time is too fast , at 20 minutes plus is too short at times when you have to do allot of spreading and having to work extra fast is a pain , there are a variety of brand names , I look for the ones with at list an hour of curing time , now if you are out side in the weather I go for the cold cure epoxies , but for interior work just plain slow cure is the best .

been smearing epoxy since Jan and Meade Gougeon were making it up a gallon at a time and shipping it to me in St Thomas.....1975 to be exact....and have played with other stuff but keep using WEST....it works. Why reinvent the wheel. There's enough tricky stuff in boat building without wondering when or if the dam glue is going to kick.........and to the poster who says short pot life............I get 40 minutes in the Caribbean with the slow ( 205?206? Cant remember) catalyst, mixed in SMALL batches.....if you try to mix a pint at a time, you can produce a VERY interesting meltdown/fire in the glue pot!
