pistons fan answer the q's

would you want to fire flip saunders,

i think we had enough, 2 staright trips to confrence finals, both looses to teams who we could beat, he is a good coach and all of that, but now i'm beginning to think that the confrence finals is his range

i want larry brown back because the pistons work out with him, he can take the team to the finals and possibly win the championship, also the pistons don't have the same defence anymore when they were under brown,

what do you guys think?

Judging from my name i think its obvious where I stand on this issue. Let me just say Flip Saunders is a great regular season coach. He's great at winning meaningless games in November, he really is

Now the problem is, well where do i start...

1. He's not a defensive coach. The Pistons used to win because they played the best defense this side of San Antonio. They still play good defense but that has more to do with the players than the coach. Defense is nowhere near as big a priority for Flip as it was for Rick Carlisle and Larry Brown.

2. He overplays his starters and is awful with his substitutions. For the second consecutive year Flip burned out the starters before we even got to a game 7. They just had nothing left in the tank to even make a run in game 6. As far as the bench goes, no one knows how many minutes they'll play on any given night. Maxiell would play 25 minutes one game then play 4 minutes the next. Delfino and Flip Murray hardly played at all. Now I'm not a huge Flip Murray fan but I honestly think he could have helped us if for no other reason than he's one of the only players on the team that can penetrate with any success. Delfino is a very talented player who should have received way more minutes than he did.

3. Those zone defenses. They don't work. It's ok to got to a zone every once in a while as a different look but once the other team's seen it every game for 5 games it serves no purpose other than to let them torch you from 3

4. He doesn't make adjustments. The playoffs are completely different from the regular season. You're playing the same team over and over and over and over again. If you play someone for 4 straight games both teams will eventually catch on to what the other is trying to do and figure out ways to stop it. The Cavs did this. The Pistons did not

Now I'm not blaming everything on Flip, in fact I don't even think he's the biggest problem. That honor would have to go to team's collective hubris. For those who aren't familiar with that term, it basically means overconfidence bordering on *********. This is evident in the team's nonchalant attitude whenever they get down big, they just assume they're good enough to come back. Somewhere along the line they lost the underdog mentality that won them a championship and started to think that they were somehow entitled to winning.
Another thing that's getting old is the constant whining after foul calls (granted there were A LOT of bad calls). Please just shut up and play.

Anyway i don't think the Pistons can win with Flip Saunders, he never got it done in Minnesota and he's not going to get it done here. I guarantee he will never win an NBA championship. As for LB, I highly doubt that he would want to come back after the way things ended last time. So I guess it's gonna be another underachieving season for the 07-08 Detroit Pistons under Flip Saunders...

Flip is a good regular season's coach which is why Garnett couldn't get into the Finals under him. The man can't think out of a paperbag during the finals and he seems afraid to point out that Stern and his Cronies "engineered" the whole Cavs to the finals thing. I don't think anyone will hire Larry Brown until he can prove that he's not so high maintenance any more. Pistons owner is still pissed off that went for job interviews during the 2005 Finals. Unemployed skilled coaches are in shortage this year, who would they replace him with. Maybe they need to dismantle and start over.

ummmm I gotta say that Saunders is not a good coach. However, I don't think Saunders should be hold accountable for everything...Last year, they lost because Miami was the better team, and it's the same case this year, with Cleveland. Plus, they're not the same Pistons, from few years back.
