Of course it has to be the Mets right now, they are getting both pitching and hitting while the Yankees are having problems with both. When the good and bad for both teams run their course the teams should be about even with the Mets having the better pitching and an edge to the Yankees with their offense.

Yes, everyone always thinks the Yankees are better, and this year's expectations were no exception. The Mets are 3.5 games in first place (ahead of the Braves). The Yankees are 12.5 games out of first. The Yankees, on paper have a better line-up: Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Giambi, Rodriguez, Matsui, Cano, Posada (no specific order). However, in the real world, the Mets are off to a great start. They have good pitching (much better than the Yankees). They have a deep bullpen (cough cough, Yankees). And, they can beat you with speed and power.
However, it's only June. The Yankees might end the year better than the Mets. For now, it's safe to say it's the Mets that are off to a better start. But let's wait to see about those Yankees.

Anyone who can look at the Yankees pitching staff and still say the Yankees isn't being completely honest, not even slightly honest, with themselves.
The Mets are stacked everywhere-line-up, fielding, starters, relief and closing.
