All of them would work to control bacteria. Also, silver inhibits certain bacterial growth.
Heat: You can boil things to sterilize them, you can fry meat to the right temp to kill bacteria
Cold: Freezing things (like a steak) keeps it from going bad
Chemicals: Bleach kills bacteria, so does hydrogen peroxide and many other chemicals
Radiation: UV lights kill bacteria in the air in delis, butcher shops, dairy barns, etc. Nuclear-type radiation kills pretty much everything

They are all used. Heat i think makes bacteria grow faster [i did an algae experiment in biology class under a heat lamp]
Cold slows it down [acts as a catalyst]
Chemicals i know help growth, and so does radiation.
