The correct spelling for what you are looking for is "appearance".
You may have noticed when you typed your question that there was a RED line under the word, which indicates it is mis-spelled. You could right click or click the "Check Spelling" above the block to find the correct spelling of the word.
It is YOUR assignment. It is your responsibility to find the proper sources of information for your report. While I won't look up the information for you, I believe you will find what you need if you utilize the other skills that are taught in school. I would say this is a question where there isn't going to be much other than opinions - can we really prove that appearances matter? We can theorize according to observations, but can we have hard proof?
I would suggest narrowing your topic down: it seems a bit too broad to be anything easy to write. Try something along the lines of appearances in one specific place or in one type of situation.
I would also recommend doing a quick layout of what you're talking about. Take a moment to think and come up with a sentence that encompasses what you think about this subject. Do you even agree that appearances matter? Why is that so? After you've agreed or disagreed, come up with an answer that opposes yours. How can you debate this? Why wouldn't appearances matter?
Once you've come up with your base, write out three sentences that sum up why you agree or disagree with the statement. Then do three sentences under each of those. You should have a good twelve sentences so far, and that's a great start. If this is an essay, you're well close to being done the main part. If it's a longer research project, you may want to go more in-depth on your main ideas, or you may want to delve into disagreeing with yourself.
Find some of those opinions and verify that they're from experts: professors, scientists, psychologists, etc. Find opinions and statements that agree with yours and work them in.
I don't think you should need too many hard and fast facts - I don't think there can be many at all on this subject as I stated before. I think the opinions would be fine to start with, but maybe you ought to try to find some statistics if you can.

People are quick to judge others based on anything they can... so appearances really do matter at first, but as you get to know somebody they may or may not be as useful in understanding that person. There is a great book that discusses this called "Reading People" by Jo-Ellan Dimitrius and Mark Mazzarella.

Hmmm, a good book to find is called "Survival of the Prettiest" by Nancy Etcoff. Also look for Cintra Wilson on the web. She writes for Salon.com, and writes lots of stuff about beauty and how it affects our culture. For your paper, you might want to think about the context in which looks would or would not matter.

appereance matters and then it doesnt matter. It matters because if you want to be cool and fit in then you have to worry about your clothes and apperance and peersonality. If you already have friends who like you for who you are and dont care at all what you look like or do like mine then sit back relax and look like what you want to look like!
Hope it helped...probably didnt lol

Since we are all human, its sad but we are quick to judge(sad)
For example in clothing:
It does matter, because if someone comes to you with a trashy shirt you just assume that they are not clean and just trashy.
If someone dresses preppy(some people not me) assume they are stupid or "white"
If someone dresses"emo" people assume they are dark and evil and cut themselves.
Appearance does matter.
Good luck, I hope i helped.
