Have you ever been scared Stiff? and how did we get the term Scared stiff?

I think it comes from If you have ever been scared badly enough that your body just tenses up and you are momentarilly paralyzed unable to do anything. I had it happen Once! lol with a Car Doing about 90 MPH while walking on a One Lane bridge. Luckily the Drunk Driver went into the lake unable to negotiate the turn just before the bridge i was on

yes I have been when I was getting out of the shower and went into the pitch black hall...and saw a tall dark figure standing there!! luckily it was just my step dad
