Ignorant Southerners killing Motorcycle-riding, drug dealing hippies?

Opinions?

The movie was okay except for the trippy stuff at the end (I 4x it through that). The soundratck was cool except for the crap they played during Jack Nicholan's riding.

Movie itself was adequate, but took me 3 days to watch it all...

Have to ask this question, no amount of explaining is going to satisfy your needs... but I will try.. Basically, intolerance to other people's beliefs or will is the answer... Was much more volatile back then... They were just trying to be free of the constraints of everyday life... Had to deal with other peoples idea of what is right... Drug dealing was rampant in those days, not so different than now...They set out to experiance AMERICA, AND THAT IS JUST WHAT THEY DID... Too bad they didn't off a bunch of rednecks for an alternate ending, though...

It's a celebration of the '60s "counterculture" - the same morons who now dominate the far-left wing of the Democrat Party. You were supposed to feel sorry for the poor hippies after watching the movie.

The truly weird thing is that it's considered to be a good film. It's not (and neither is Jaws - which is always listed as a 4-star movie (somebody was drunk when they rated Jaws!)) - it's just another movie whose currency was very short. Today Easy Rider is laughable and I'm a big fan of Hopper and Nicholson.

It's an important movie in film history because it was made by the counter-culture for the counter-culture. Believe it or not, Dennis Hopper, who directed and starred, was considered quite the artist at the time. Though Easy Rider looks fairly tame and poor quality by today's standards, back then it was a groundbreaking movie that said "Screw You!" to the Hollywood studio system. If it weren't for Easy Rider, we may have never had a Godfather, Taxi Driver, or even Star Wars. I personally think Easy Rider is a pretty boring and overrated movie, but it does have major importance in the world of film.

Jack Nicholson's first big film. No, there is no point. It's just a story about scummy people, like Pulp Fiction.

It was actually a politically motivated film which was trying to show how freedom is viewed, how some people don't apriciate it, and how some people are intolerant of others having it and want to control it.
