My friend is driving me crazy with this, twisted, emo psychological disorder. Since I can't solve this myself, I've turned to the outside world.

Diagnosis (My Point of View):

-Aggressively follows the 'emo' stereotype
-Craves attention, but pushes it away
-Repeatedly whines about nothing, or little meaningless things
-Gets mad when there is nothing to complain about
-Self-destructive, for attention-getting purposes
-Fabricates a worse past than she had, so others will be more sympathetic.
-Does morbid things, possibly for attention.

Someone please tell me what I can do to fix this? All answers welcome.

Responding to the person that left a worthwhile answer; everyone else gives her attention. I can't affect the judgement of 100+ people.

Borderline personality disorder or just an attention seeking adolescent that wants to fit into a group that she feels will except her without expecting much out of her.

Ignore it, nothing stops attention whoring than total lack of any. Emo is a fraud anyway, how can kids living cushy lives in the suburbs with both loving parents REALLY be ravaged with all that angst and pain? Still be their friend but politely ask them to cut the crap at the same time.

most likely it is just a phase, i was emo for a while, i used to carve stuff on my body with a nail, needle, scizzor or some other sharp tool. to be honest with you i didnt do that for attention i did it bcuz i thought it was kinda kewl, just like a piercing or a tattoo... i guess some ppl wld still consider me emo, but i kno that i am changing. as for helping your friend, here are the rules
-dont push her into stopping being emo
-let her follow the stereotypes, she's just expirimenting
-give her attention, but not the kind of attention that parents or teachers give her, give her friendly attention
-let her whine, she's just confused
-let her get mad, shes just covering up her weaknesses
-dont let her destruct herself! try to divert her attention from destruction
-perhaps her past effected her more than you kno, just agree with her for a little while
- i am almost certain she will get out of this phase after a little while it is just a hormonal imbalance, it is inevitable...
if it is her food habbits that are depressing her then try to convince her to eat healthier
GOOD LUCK!

Stop giving her attention. All she wants is attention; if you give her that gratification she'll continue this behavior. Ignore it, pretend that you like it (hey, reverse psychology can never hurt) just try to take the wind out of her sails. Meanwhile just set a positive influence for her and hopefully she'll turn around.
Best of luck to you.

For some poor souls, negative attention is better than none at all,and yet, you don't have to play the game, then it won't drive you crazy.

tell her how you feel. and i'm sorry, but you really shouldn't hang out with her anymore. she's not healthy and you can't make a person better that doesn't want to be. after you talk to her, if she doesn't want to change, you need to avoid her. her unhealthy behavior is obviously affecting you.
