Here's the situation.
My friend has been dating this guy for about 6 months. Yesterday she told me that her boyfriends father is notorious for shooting his animals. IE- his dog chewed up his work bookts once, that pissed him off, so he shot and killed the dog. He shoots pet cats when he's tired of owning them and he sits in his window with his gun, shooting birds and squirrels when the enter his yard. My friend wont report him because she doesnt want to lose her boyfriend... But I dont care about her boyfriend, or her boyfriends father, and I want to report it.
is it considered animal abuse? and can they even do anything, if they have no proof?

I dont know his name, but i know my friend hates him, so I'm going to ask her his name and say 'lets look him up and see if he has a criminal background" ..then im going to call the humane society and report him...If anything, they'll have him on the "do not adopt to" list, and that should save some innocent animals, but I hope he gets in trouble.
oh and by the way, he IS a huge jerk. He hates women with a passion, he's racist, and calls his own grand kids ugly, stupid, etc etc. He's a worthless human being.

This man sounds dangerous. Yes, it is animal abuse. Yes he needs to be turned in. Don't give your name if you are the one that will turn him in. I wouldn't want him mad at me with a gun. As for proof, I am sure they will investigate before hitting him with a fine. What about neighbors? Do they live in the country. It's illegal to shoot fire arms in the city limits.

I know this guy is only shooting pets, squirrels etc. But what if someone else P**ses this man of will he still pull the gun. This man should be reported straight away. Theres too much gun crime around these days. All in all though this man is causing pain to the wild life and this should not be left to happen. Mention it to the police and they might keep an eye on the situation

Unfortunantly it might be perfectly legal, provided they were his animals. Depends on your local laws.
Many places treat animals as property. And you can kill them if you wish provided you do it in a way that they don't suffer excessivly (shooting them would be considered quick and humane, unless he shot them with the intent that they take a long time to die.) birds and squirrels are considered legally to be pests, and can be killed on private property without a hunting license.
Very sad, and it tells a lot about his character. he sounds like a selfish, sadistic person. Who gets his kicks from hurting other things.
I'd at least report it, and see if they do anything. Especially if you have an animal cruelty law in your area.

Yes its against the law to abuse any animal. 6 months in jail and over $1000.00 fine for throwing a dog against a house and breaking its leg( this was on the news today). So yes, if you know the name of this man, call the police, and tell the you want to remain anoynamous. If enough people complain, something will be done. And besides, if the boyfriend sees his father doing this, it could just make him fly off the handle sometime and smack your girlfriend around. So please do something about it.

Yes it is abuse and you should call animal control and anonymously report this. You may also need to call the police if he lives within the city limits as most places have laws firing weapons in city limits. Ask him also if his kids misbehave does he take them out back and shoot them too? The guy is a jerk and hopefully his son is not like him and if he is your friend needs to find a better guy before she makes him mad and he shoots her or has his dad do it for him.

yet another example of why Americans need gun control laws. I live in Canada so I don't know what would be considered animal abuse in your state. However, I'm pretty sure people have gone to jail for less than that. I've never heard of anyone shooting their own pets before. Shocking really.

Yes it is animal abuse, and they will investigate it if they hear about it, but if you say nothing, they can't do a thing. Knowing that the police know about him may change his ways - it';s about the only thing you can do.
Your friend surely must raealise that she's loving a killer, and that this kind of abusive behaviour at some stage might well spill over onto her?

This guy shoots critters just to shoot them. I would consider him a hazard not only to our four-legged friends, but to those on two legs. Forget about the boyfriend! If he doesn't care, the chances are very good that at best he will be an abuser too.

You and I know that the father is a sick person. He could be a danger to other people. He needs to be reported and if your friends boyfriend doesn't know that his father needs help, then your friend needs to guided away from that family. Go talk to the people at your local animal shelter.
