I will turn 41 in July and I'd rather just spend it at home with a home cooked meal. I don't want a cake, cards, presents or a song. At my ripe old age I can buy just about anything I really want anyway. I think after the big 40 people shouldn't expect a big party till they are 50, 60, 70, 80. You know, every ten years. But once you hit 80 you should have a party every year. By then the birthdays will be a blessing.
So ... what are the opinions of my good friends here on Yahoo, Answers?

Well I'm 53 and I still like presents and cards and a fuss being made over me and probably will til the day I die.
I think it's sad that you have such a low sense of self-esteem that you don't want to celebrate you. Yeah there comes a time when you got all the ' stuff' you'll ever need, but it's getting what people think you'll want that is the joy of the gift , not necessarily the gift itself. It's the lopsided pots or the drawings or the poems from your kids and grandkids.
Nothing wrong with a party at home with your family and friends and loved ones.
I think too many of us don't know how to gracefully recieve gifts from others. The cake maybe was lovingly made by your wife or daughter/son or your granddaughter or grandson.
Take joy and be grateful for all the people in your life and all the wonderful things they do for you, it could be all gone tomorrow.

Every birthday is a milestone in your life. It signifies another year of living in the best country on earth. At "your old age"????? I'm 55 and if my family didn't plan a celebration for me I'd be devastated...and I like getting presents too. They don't have to be expensive but something to remember the day by. You are someone special. There is no one else like you on the earth and you deserve your "own" day to celebrate you! My parents are 86 & 89 and my grandmother is 101 yrs. old and we celebrate every year! Cake, ice cream, balloons, candles, gifts....the works. You never know if that birthday may be the last you get to spend with loved ones. Love yourself enough to 'allow' yourself to enjoy being fussed over and spoiled one day out of the year. It's good for the soul! Happy Birthday!

I believe or this is how I was raised that you are never too old to expect a birthday party or presents. It's a way of showing appreciation. Although, it isn't always important. It's the thought that counts.

I agree with you on that. They kind of get passed over in your own mind by then. But i know one thing for sure.My Mom had a birthday party at 66 and it turned out to be her last on Earth.I would never trade the cake, cards, and presents for all the gold in the world. So that was a one for the family to remember her on....

enable her comprehend which you're sorry she is gloomy together with her present. tell her that once one provides a latest, there is regularly a great form of concept positioned into it and it incredibly is gloomy for the two events while it does no longer artwork out properly. you are the determine. If the DS replaced into too costly for her birthday, she would be waiting to ought to attend till Christmas. i comprehend it incredibly is problematic to make sure your infant disillusioned, yet she might as properly learn now that she isn't being raised by utilising the Hilton kinfolk; it incredibly is a good element for her.

I get offended when the people I love, don't want me to give them presents to celebrate their birth. If it wasn't for the day of their birth, they wouldn't be in my life. It doesn't have to be a huge present, anyway. It could be something significant between you both, or even a donation on your behalf to your favorite charity.

You should ask people who want to get you presents to donate to a charity in your name, or ask your friends to volunteer with you at a food bank, soup kitchen, etc as your party.
