What have been the major causes of conflict in the Middle East?

Bin Laden, Hussein, and all the rest of that ilk are no more religious than the man in the moon. Religion is just a pretext for them to act out their male juvenile fantasies. They are all simply bad boys with guns whose intellects haven't developed beyond that of a slug.

In a word religion

There is a strong dislike by Muslims for all other religions. In most Middle Eastern countries, all religions except Muslim is outlawed.

Both the Jews and Muslims claim the area that Israel is located and the fight will continue for eons as it has for the last 1500 years.

Within the Muslim world there is sharp disagreements between the Shiites and Sunnis. This is the major problem in Iraq today.

The Afghans ate all the Iranians' goats, The Saudis left flaming bags of poop on the Jordanians' doorsteps, Saddam hussein keyed the Israeli prime minister's car...etc.

Anti-Semitism, pure and simple. If the Arabs had tried to build up their countries and help their people as the Israelis have theirs, peace would have been achieved a long time ago.
