This isn't meant to sound boorish, but why don't people dress up for dinner anymore when they go to a fine restaurant? When I spend a few hundred dollars to take a lady out, I don't want to see people dressed like they are going to Denny's. I miss fine restaurants that have a dress code. Anyone else feel this way?

Yes, if you are taking the time out to make reservations, then I think that you should dress better.

Well I work in a fine dining restaurant and we have a strict dress code. We just thought it would be the right thing to do. Of course if you are making reservations and it's a fine restaurant why wouldn't people dress accordingly. My point was that we had this big article in the newspaper about how ridiculous we are for having a dress code!!! I blame it on people's laziness!

I know what you mean. I don't like to dress up all the time. However, it is nice to look you best when taking your lady to a fine restaurant. You do need to look better than when you dine at a Waffle House. Although, I saw a group of people at a Waffle House after prom. Only in Georgia!

People have gotten so casual these days... I guess anything goes. But, I agree... it is nice to dress up and have a classy night on the town.

I also don't like to go to a nice restaurant and have kids screaming and throwing food around. I understand that their parents deserve a night out, but they should hire a baby sitter, or teach their children to behave properly in a restaurant. If you're at McDonald's, it's okay for your kid to throw tantrums and toss french fries over the table. But, when I'm spending lots of money on a nice meal, I definitely don't want to see food flying!

Yes I miss it. I always dress up a bit, but not like I used to. If I did I would be overdressed. I lived in Las Vegas in the early 60s and remember that everyone dressed up in the casinos. Not Now. You should see what some people are waring!!!!!

I agree. People these days are just getting too lazy to dress up. It takes away the specialness of the atmosphere when nobody is dressed up at a fancy restaurant.

It's so tacky. If the restaurant has cloth napkins and actual wine poured then dress like you're going to church not going to a park to play.

Oh my gosh...yes! People no longer have respect for money and what it stands for. I believe they are self-centered to not care about their appearance in a $$$ restaurant. They should just pick up a lobster and potato at the local market and go home. Keep your butt at home until you can present yourself according to the venue. My biggest pet peeve...gym shoes in a restaurant (unless it's McD's).
