ok. my 11 year old daughter is hannah montana's biggest fan. we already have the first dvd called "livin the rock star life". we dont have cable so she cant watch hannah montana unless it is on dvd. she watches it when ABC kids comes on saturdays for ordinary tv. my question is, if we tape the episodes on when they are on ordinary tv, is it ok? as long as we dont sell them it should be fine right?

yes it's alright. It's only illegal if you sell them. It comes on Disney Channle every day. Maybe if you search Hannah Montana episode's on the computer you might get a few clips. You can also get her CD. it has alot of songs on it. It's just called Hannah Montana and it's cover is just like the DVD [her with her finger over her lips]. you can find it in stores now. Good luck.

Sure nobody can stop you from taping. I do know that you are not allowed to sell them or show them for profit, that's called infringement on copyright. A&E has some shows that tell you can tape a certain show but it must be erased by a certain date, I have no idea as to why, these are mostly history or biography. I doubt that the taping police are going to come after you, after all that's why they sell VCR's and tapes, just don't sell them or show them for profit and you'll be fine.

If you think about it, Video Recorders, DVD Burners, HDD Recorders would not be available for commercial purpose in so many shops if you weren't supposed to use them for recording television programs. I mean, outside transferring camcorder stuff over to a permanent media, what else could you possibly record with a recorder except television programs?

Basically, it is ok.

It's okay. The episodes you tape for your private viewing are perfectly legal. If you used the episodes for any other purpose, ie: in a class or daycare setting to entertain a group, or if you charged admission, then you would be in violation of law.

Yes, it is fine. Have one of your friends, or hers for that matter to tape the shows off cable for you. You don't seem to be the type to use them for monetary gain. If she enjoys the show that much, I think it would be a great idea.

As far as I know you can tape the episodes of any show as long as you're not selling them.

My daughter is also a huge fan. We record it all the time for her and transfer to VHS. There is no problem with you taping it.
