You may have to go to more serious types of pain management. Have you ever thought about a nerve block? I have 2 protruding discs and one is pinching the sciatic nerve. I tried the nerve blocks and they have helped me alot. Good luck.

I've been battling sciatica for close to a decade, after a minor car accident, and I had tried everything the doc threw at mepills, injections, special mattresses This guide was extremely eye opening and within one week of the regimen you gave me I can barely feel any discomfort. You have no idea how much of a relief it is to be finally getting rid of a pain I've had to bear for so many years.

Pain relievers do help, but I've had the best luck with spinal manipulation done either by a chiropractor or a Doctor of Osteopathy - the D.O, not the M.D. If you can locate a D.O., they are trained to do manipulations and massages, but can also help with medications if they are needed. They tend not to just depend on the pain meds, and will also try to figure out what sets the sciatica off so you can try to avoid it in the future. The other things I do is to float in a pool or hot tub of water, which takes the strain off things.

I had recurring issues with a sciatica nerve. Going to the chiropractor helped but the best remedy by far is getting on my treadmill and walking for at least 1/2 hour. Haven't had a recurrance in months.
And I was talking with a co-worker today who also had sciatica problems until she started doing a daily workout on her exercise bike. Again, 1/2 hour seems to work great.

Down the pain pills, get out the heating pad and ice packs, get some rest and try to keep yoru mind off of it. Those cortisone shots never worked on mine. I hated it. I think the shot made it worse. Hang in there. I am sitting here with my heating pad as we speak. Doing ice packs and then heat over and over really helps. Maybe taking a hot shower after it calms done a bit to help loosen up the muscles. Putting a pillow behind your back helps too.

I'm sorry for you. Have you seen a chiropractor? My mother had terrible sciatica when I was younger, and she was in terrible, terrible pain. She went to a chiropractor and after a month felt complete relief. I really recommend seeing a chiropractor. First ask around to see if there are any friends of yours that see a good chiropractor. If you don't know anyone, try this website:

They have directories of chiropractors. You have to have a good one though. There are tons of "chiropractors" out there who will do absolutely nothing for you. Find a good one and you will feel better soon thereafter.

I would also love a quality answer for this.
My best suggestion is to make sure that you stretchyour lower body out very well. Stretch your groin, hamstrings, quads, and glutes. It's best if you can do it all while sitting as well.
I try to do it before I go to bed, and then again in the morning and I usually feel much better. Although I will start going to physical therapy when my health insurance kicks in next month.
I hear yoga helps as well.

make sure it's actually the nerve and not a hip problem. very misleading. Buy try stretching like you are going to go for a run.
