people say that when you put it in water it catchs fire!
so where can I buy pure sulfer?

First of all, it is spelled sulfur.
Second, it does not catch fire if you put it in water
Third, you can probably buy small amounts at a hobby shop that sells reagents for chemistry sets. You pay through the nose, but at least you can get it.

You are confusing sulfur with sodium. The last time I wanted sulfur, I found it at a drugstore; it is relatively cheap, as vast quantities of the stuff are separated from petroleum and piled into masses dozens of feet high and hundreds of feet long. Sulfur does not react with water; it just sits there. Sodium, however does, quite violently; it can be bought through chemical supply houses such as Fisher.
