I have my eyes on this laptop (HP DV6000 series). I need one because the desktop I have is SLOW, slow as hell with XP and OLD.

the problem comes with all the rumors I have heard, I'm afraid
that most hardwares & softwares don't work with it. and this laptop that I'm planning on buying will be for entertainment only (games: sims 2 etc. , digital cameras, music, movies) and some work here & there.

all of the laptops are now coming with vista and I'm not sure if its a good idea getting one. But for now what do you think of this:

I want it to run smooth, when I say smooth I mean Flawlessly cause I sure learned a lesson from the desktop I have now. I'm open for suggestions too.

RAM and HD space look good.

honestly, my biggest complaint with vista is it's slow for me but that is only because I only have 512 MB of RAM. With 2 Gigs, you are pretty good in that department.

There WILL be compatibility issues. BUT...most of your average things will work. You might have to download a patch here and there...but it will be fine.

Don't believe all the horror stories people tell you. They probably have never used a Vista computer in their life.

Yes, you're right - many things don;t work with Vista. Vista is also very slow. But not all laptops come with Vista! MacBooks come with Mac OS X which is way superior. You'll be able to play The Sims, and OS X works much better with digital cameras, music and movies. Oh, and you won't have to worry about those Microsoft-only viruses, spyware and adware problems!

You may want to try to have them downgrade to XP service pack 2. If not, the thing with Vista is that you have to download drivers to attach stuff like printers and stuff like that. I suggest tech support. If your old computer was slow, it was not because of XP. You probably did not have enough RAM to run all that stuff you had on it.

i would not recommend getting a vista computer for just entertainment
the vista has alot of problems (half of the problems are that most software and hardware are hard to install/uninstallable) and and if you dont buy the vista version of the games/software then your going to have one heck of a time trying to get it on so just wait till the new verison of vista comes out and buy it when theirs not any problems anymore

you can still get laptop with xp instead of vista and it will be cheaper but let them throw in the vista upgrade so you won't hqve to buy it when they have worked all the bugs out
