BEST unknown place to stay is The Orleans http://www.orleanscasino.com - has casino (with some low-play tables), poker room, lots of yummy restaurants (plus their French Buffet with 2/1 coupons in your welcome kits), a movie theater, a bowling alley, a great pool with cabanas... oh, they have a stadium too! In other words, they have everything you need. OH, and a SPA - best massage I ever had was there!
It's about 8 minutes off the strip, but has free shuttle.
Not to ruin a good thing, but you can usually find a coupon for $25/night over Mem Day & Labor Day weeks (Su-Thu)!!

Palace Station Casino and Hotel is the least expensive place I've stayed in the world! They have recently remodeled non-smoking rooms and they are clean and the only negative is it is slightly off the strip and the bathrooms are teeny-tiny! The buffet has a great price weekly and on the week-ends it only prices up a few dollars more! Bus line location is on Saraha blvd near Saraha hotel. Check it out on line. Oh, by the way, I paid $23.00 per night. I couldn't believe it. The room was nicer than the Fitz and Circus towers.

It all depends on what area you want to stay in and what your plans are. Are you going to visit relatives or to play on the strip? Will you have kids with you or only adults. Do you want a relaxing spa resort, a casino or both? Are you looking for tourist attractions or more a local scene? I lived there for 26 years, I know my way around.

Usually if you stay off the strip its much cheaper.Check with a travel agent as they usually know which places are cheaper, but also decent quality.
