Do they have a burrow or little house? I have raccoons in the my yard at night. Should I bring them in at night or is there a safe way to keep them outside at night?

Box Turtles kept outside need a secure, dry, warm place to sleep. For most people, this means a house, box, etc.

If your burrow is well-drained, safe from rain flooding, etc., then it will work nicely as well.

If you have raccoons or other predators, your pen should be protected from them. Many keepers make up a simple frame of chicken wire to pop on when no one is around.

As long as its warm out..box turtles absolultey love to hide under leaves..if you have a pen...just rake up a mass of leaves and place them in the pen and the turtle will crawl beneath them and you may not see him for months.
