Depends on the dictionary. Some of the more extensive ones can be upwards of 500,000 words

It varies from one publication to another. But, if you insist on counting, be prepared to stay up all night, and then some. The Oxford English Dictionary is considered to be the ultimate authority on English words by most wordsmiths, and probably contains the most words of any English dictionary, about 500,000 entries. But there are as many again scientific and technical terms which aren't cataloged. Here's a website which I'm sure you will find interesting:

it depends on the dictionary you have. some dictionaries exclude slang, leaving out very many words that should be there. others include these and some older terms, along with words used in other countries. there is no exact count on all dictionaries; each one has a different number of words in it.

It depends what dictionary you are looking at. Some dictionaries are incomplete and are missing a few words. New words are added to the dictionary every year.
