What companies hire playwrights?

I know they are generally self-employed, but are there any companies out there that hire playwrights?

Publishers or you could hire a literary agent

Playwrights are independent and work on their own.

Buy a copy of The Writer's Digest. It lists theaters that may be interested in new plays.

Contact the theaters in your city and ask if they are interested in reading your play. If they like it, they may produce it.
