On base percentage plus slugging

OPS == On-base percentage Plus Slugging average

OPS == OBP + SLG

It doesn't actually measure anything, but the bigger the OPS value is, the more offense that player is producing on a rate basis.

Onbase plus Slugging.

However, it is supposed to measure the scoring effiency of a batter.

If a batter gets on base more, then he is more likely to score a run.
If a batter produces more hits, then he is more likely to hit in a run.
