Ok, so you find a lottery ticket on the ground.

You check it and it turns out to be a winner (not a huge win, but a substantial one).

Do you take the ticket in to the place of purchase and wait to see if someone lays claim to it.

Or do you collect the winnings and crack the champagne?

I always sign the backs of my tickets, because, for the most part, people will cash in the winning ticket. How could someone prove that it's their ticket...unless they sign the back.

Collect the winnings and go home. That is pretty awesome if that was a true story.

Hang on to it until 24 hours before expiration, then cash it . Same as losing money on the ground. If your too stupid to know how to take care of it, you lose.
It's a different deal if you find a wallet or purse. I have turned those in to police or store.
