I did a big long thing on this already ut I'm fascinated with it, so ok. There is a special on one of the history/science channels periodically about this. The mayan calendar is very precise, but the prophecies - um. I'm skeptical.
One cycle is: There will be pestilence and famine, war will ravage the land, people won't have any faith in the government.
another cycle: people loose faith in the goverment after a plague and a war.
Not really a lot of diversity in them and that Lack of faith in the government is a plot point in itself for them. Always with the no faith they are...
However, there are a couple of other interesting little facts. The Bible code people checked the date in their super Torah computer. it came up with something. It says basically that a comet will mose toward the earth on dec 12, 2012, but at the last minute, God will save us. There is a coincidence that might make youloose some sleep, hum?
Final tidbit - don't read this if you alone and it's dark. On dec 12, 2012, our planet with be in a direct line with and closestest in thousands of years to the center of the galaxy. No harmonic convergence here guys, the only notiable affect is the Ozone and magnetic fields, and the gravitional pull of the alignment will make us much more vunerable to...comets. Anyone else want to invest in de-hydrated food?
However, there is one really great up side to this mayan prophesy thing. At the end of the fifth age - after whatever goes down, we will find out our true spirit purpose - the meaing of lie. So you might want to start buildign the Bunker now. :)

Its the cycle of the one of the sunspots. I saw this the other night on the history channel. It will be a natural disaster but humankind wont be knocked out completely. Im sure it would change the world. If something as small as Katrina did, get ready for what is going to happen @ the end or 11 or sometime in 12.

Actually it ends between December 21 - December 23, 2012 and is related to their belief system. The Aztecs actually have it about a year earlier, in December 2011.
In any case, the dates have no great deep-meaning significance.
It is amazing that Christians would have latched onto the Mayan belief system. The first the Mayans ever heard of Jesus was when the Spanish were killing off the last of them.

My birthday is Dec 13th. Doesn’t it also say that everyone should send me money to ensure the world’s continuing existence?

If it happens it happens. Just live your days like they are your last. There are always believers and non-believers. Nostodumus predicts that the WORLD will end 3072, but he didn't mention human life.
