We don't live in the world of 1984 and you can be whatever you want to be. However, if you let your opinions impact your behavior towards your students, then no, it's not ok. Why do you ask?

If you are truly a racist you wouldn't want to educate students which are not the same race as you....how would you handle that? All schools are required by law to be equal as far as racial matters go. If a white, black, or Hispanic, Indian or whatever, can afford a private school they will be there. If you want to be racist it is your right, but you will be miserable I would think. If you are a public school teacher good luck in having a happy work life. Kids are a little smarter than you think and they pick up on things like racism, you can't hide hate or indifference from them. Good luck!

It isn't okay if the teacher tries to indoctrinate their students. That would open the teacher up to severe reprimand and probably dismissal from their teaching position. In fact, I believe most teachers' contracts have a morals clause which would forbid this kind of behavior even outside the classroom. For example, suppose the kids' favorite teacher, Mr. White-Supremacist, was discovered by the school district to be a Grand Dragon of the KKK. The district would likely take a very dim view of Mr. White's activities, fearing he and they could negatively influence his charges attitudes and social outlook. Then out Mr. White would go before he had a chance to pervert and prejudice young and innocent psyches and also bring about millions of dollars in lawsuits from distraught parents charging the school board with lack of proper oversight and care for their children's well-being and the community's social mores.

What is your definition of racism? If racism means that you believe your race is superior, then I think it's okay to be a racist because people should be able to believe anything they want to believe. If your definition of racism includes actions that would be harmful or uncomfortable for the students, then I don't think it's okay.
