I want to get wireless internet so I can sit in my room and use it. However, the internet is currently connected with an ethernet cable into the desktop computer. If I get a wireless router can I maintain the ethernet connection?

Yes you can. Get a router that is wireless but also has a few ethernet connections and you can leave your desktop linked via ethernet and then configure the wireless for any other computer that has a wireless card.

ethernet (up to 1 Gb/s) is better--especially for a desktop computer! It's possible for a desktop computer to support wireless, but you would need a wireless adapter connected to a desktop computer with its drivers installed, along with a wireless router connected to your cable/DSL modem. In this case, ethernet is best. Hope this helps.

As long as the router has at least one ethernet port, which most do.

Sure it's possible. I use 2 PCs hooked up via CAT-5 cable and 2 wirelessly from the same router.
