PR, especially for a new band is hard- but you guys have to do your own leg work. Call your local clubs that book bands of your genre and talk to their booking agents. They can usually tell you if they need to see you booked at a local club first or if there are local radio stations that are interested in local talent. Getting a demo is great, but it is expensive. There are local businesses and schools that often do discounted studio time depending on your city. I'm from Houston so there are quite a few places that offer "unknowns" studio time for cheap.

Only way to get your band out there is for you to do the leg work, club owners, booking agents- radio dj's are HUGE in helping out the local music scene.
Another angle that we use to help local bands is to actually get independent music stores to have listening parties during business hours- sounds unorthodox but it works. Meet and greets are great if you have community events like downtown parties or festivals.
Have posters or pamphlets printed with the bands name and how people can contact you- get a website- with music samples.

There are tons of ways to do it- but it wont happen over night. Most bands have street teams that pass out stuff or just spread the word. Good luck-
if you need help with more ideas- let me know........

Do you know other bands that get gigs? One way it to join up with another band and that way you can open for them at their gigs. It gets your name out there and it gets you a fan base.

Once you join up, you can go to places (clubs, restaurants, bars, etc) that have live shows and so can their band. Double the effort for finding gigs.

Good luck.

Make CDs of yourselves playing, take them to every venue in the city where you live.... Tell them all that you have a "modest following" and can bring in a crowd. Then find a crowd!

Go and ask night club owners etc.... Play for them maybe, to show what you can do. Then they might ask you to play.
