I claim to be a realist, so I cannot belong to either of the two so-called parties, either their militant religious nor their somewhat-worldly wings--both of whose disconcepted 'leaders', in degree, and all their follower, are Medievalists: they are anti-worldly, anti-individual rights, anti-science, and therefore anti-secular, anti liberty and therefore impractical. That's why they can never solve any nation "problem"--the problem is their unrealistic basis of ideas.
But there is a difference between the two parties; the Republicans are the outgrowth of the doctrinaire pseudo--religious wing of the Knoxian-Lutheran-Franklinite group of statist totalitarians; while the Democrats are the outgrowth of the semi-worldly wing of the Catholic--pietist-reform movement.
So this is why the Democrats are at present less virulent, less inclined to paranoid military hegemonism, and more willing to sign treaties, listen to solutions and take realistic monitored readings to see how well some hypothesis is working; they are FAR more realistic at present, I claim.
Having said this, I hasten to add that Mr. Libby is more a symptom than a disease; that his pardon would annoy me but neither shock nor anger me. Pardon a friend if I had the power? It would depend on what he had done and why. he had done it; wouldn't it logically have to do so?
The friend who assassinated Philip of Macedon and made Alexander his son the world's emperor was executed immediately for high treason--even though he'd handed the new ruler the world on a silver platter.
No, Mr. Bush and Mr. Libby and dozens of others are pro-imperial-presidency power-seeking a-strategic mental freaks, nothing more important, by their actions and by their hatred of any right claimed by individuals under "regulations".
We, the realists of both parties, recognize the power of a president to pardon anyone--even perhaps stupid smarmily loyal nobodies like Mr. Libby. What we do not recognize is the power of a postmodernist reality-hating power-seeker and his gang of manure farmers and disseminators to expand tyrannous privilege in order to deliberately destroy the US Constitution's balance of power and to betray the promises they made, the rights of every citizens and the hopes of generations to come merely so they can to set up a USer theocracy masquerading as a government--under the guise of emergency measures being needed for "public safety".

So, the Republican message here is, "Let's commit Federal Crimes, it'll really piss off the Liberals? "
...And you wonder why adults voted you clowns out the last election?
Scooter LIbby played with a CIA operative's LIFE, you dimwit, and then LIED about it to Federal Investigators, I thought Republicans were supposed to be "tough on crime"- I guess not when it's one of your own, huh? "Prison? Hell no that's for the poor folks, not us Republicans.."
You certainly deserve the government you ended up with.... but there are always consequences to your choices.... ALWAYS.... one day it'll be YOU being dragged off to Gitmo and you'll be wondering how did this ever happen to me? I was a good Fascist, I did everything Fuhrer Bush said I should, I even advocated Felonious Conduct for personal amusement! I wasn't a good enough house N word for ya Massah?"

I am liberal and I could care less if Libby is pardoned...the damage has already been done in public perception. Plus, Clinton pardoned a bunch of people.

No. I would not pardon a friend unless they were wrongfully accused and convicted. I am a person of principles. The president should set the example of being a leader with principles but, we all know he will pardon his buddy as soon as he can.
I find it sad that you wish a criminal could get pardoned just to incite anger in someone with a different point of view than you have.

of course I would pardon my friend if I had an opportunity (and a friend in need of pardon), loyalty to friends is a important principle
Bush should pardon Libby if he considers him a friend, if he doesn't, Bush is not Libby's friend
I'm usually considered a leftist

I think Bush should pardon him today.
Additional: I do not think that Bush will pardon Libby.
I would only pardon friends that deserved to be gotten off the hook. For example, I think Rep. Cunningham needs to spend that time in prison, though I think his military service was wonderful. I am disappointed in him that he turned out to be scum. Libby didn't do anything wrong, Plame and Wilson are the villans of that story. Plame lied to Congress and Wilson just plain lied.

Scooter Libby should be freed. I am sure if Al Gore was president he would have freed Mumia Abu Jamal and some other terrorists.
Scooter Libby was imprisoned by the Liberals.
