There is a difference between a 'router' and a 'hub'. Hubs are typically use on larger networks to share files. Routers are are used on home networks to share an Internet connection - of course large networks have at least one router in their system to share the Internet connection.
You need a router.

A hub has no way to route the traffic to the modem so only the first one that hooks up will get an internet address.

You need a router if you want to connect more than one computer.
