depends where the baffle is & how fussy you are when it comes to the look of your bike..but heres a few ideas to try

If you get a hammer & dent the outside of the muffler (on the side closest to the swingarm),so it cant be seen to easy, it may hold the baffle in place..

In Australia we have an epoxy glue called "Araldite" (not sure if its avail in the US). this glue is a thermo setting glue.. this means it holds at the temperature it sets at. Its available in 5min quick set & standard cure.. If you mix up the epoxy standard cure & glue the baffle in place then ride the bike so it gets hot, it should stop the baffle rattling..

you could also get a self tapping screw & screw it in place to hold the baffle...

go to an engineering company & see if they can mig weld the baffle to stop it rattling..

Wow - you have an '84 Virago - awesome.

I'd just go to the Yamaha shop and get a new one. Considering the age it's probably broken.

Without seeing the muffler, I can only suggest drilling through the muffler and rivoting the baffle to it.
