This is one of those six of one, half a dozen of the other things. Both major parties run up debt and taxes. Republicans actually have a longer history of buillding out of control social welfare programs and Democrats like their pork as well. There are actually more than enough parties. The big two garner most of the attention and votes.

Oh, so it's the Democrats who spend? Really?
Our national debt was just under 1 trillion when Reagan took office in 1981. In 1993, when Bush Sr. left office, it had tripled.
After eight years of Clinton, it had raised another trillion to 4 trillion.
Six years of a Bush administration, it's up to 10 trillion. It took Bush 6 years to raise our debt to 2.5 times the level it took for the previous 230 years.
So in 26 years since Reagan took office, the Republicans have been in the White House for 18 of those years, Democrats for 8. Democrats raised the debt 1 trillion. Republicans raised it 8 trillion.
Democrats tax and spend. Republicans tax AND borrow and spend. At least Democrats don't leave our kids and grandkids with the debt.

The worst is that people actually believe that we have 2 parties and that this is really a democracy. This is all an illusion that is maintained by pundits and big media to keep the naive average American from becoming undivided.
