the first 5 Metallica albums, then Rust In Peace, Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings, So Far So Good So What!! from Megadeth, in that order!!!

let me better rank the top 10 albums, including each

Revision:
1.) Master of Puppets (Het's Met)
2.) Rust In Peace (Dave's Deth)
3.) Countdown to Extinction (Dave)
4.) Justice for All (Het)
5.) Kill em All (Het)
6.) Ride the Lightning (Het)
7.) So Far So Good So What!! (Dave)
8.) Youthanasia (Dave)
9.) Cryptic Writings (Dave)
10.) System Has Failed (Dave)

just kidding, they are impossible to rank and compare!!

Old Metallica Rulz period, but Dave Mustaine still shreds as hard as ever, while Jaymz Hetfield has gone gray

My friend, you have opened up an enormous can of worms.

Whenever most people answer this question, it comes down to a couple things. Most fans of metal like Megadeth more because they "stayed true" to their thrash roots. Many more metal fans 'dislike' Metallica for moving in different musical directions over their career. The list goes on over who people think is better, but it's silly to argue about it.

I like both bands equally. Both bands have had great albums over the years and the musicianship of either bands shouldn't be an issue. Though if you were judging the two on a scale of success, I would have to say that Metallica has had more mainstream success in recent years only because they've tried new things. Anyone who claims that Metallica has sold out or abandoned their roots can not simply understand what being in a band is like. It's very cumbersome playing the same style of music over, and over, and over, on each and every single album. You can only do so much with a certain formula before it's time to pick up and move on. Sure, some experiments might not be well liked by the fan-base, but that's part of music. What some fans may not like, there may be another group of fans that are tapping into the new sound and enjoying it.

Megadeth has always been able to pull off making some great thrash and heavy metal. I do think that Mustaine perhaps should try a few newer things, seeing as metal and rock as we know it is changing every day. Still, Mustaine can still write great music and I'm sure he will always write great music until he retires.

So, just keep in mind that both bands are excellent musicians and songwriters, and that it's folly to compare the two (something that most do out of spite of the pair's past.).

Basically, both bands are good. Let's leave it at that. Okay?

Metallica til 87, Megadeth since then.

Metallica were the prodigies, then sold out. Mustaine experimented, figured out what works, what doesn't , now it's no contest. Metallica turned into just another egotistical commercial pop-band. Megadeth is still producing music that matters.

Without metallica there would be no megadeth.......you must agree! Metallica saw dave as a reject, thats why they got rid of him and hired on Kirk......who is much more talented on the guitar....its not all about playing fast dave.....it also has to sound good.

Megadeth is better than any of the new sissy bands but they didnt arrange the music as well or make it sound as good as metallica.

Metallica made you think about the lyrics......dave just says whatever and doesnt make people think like tallica does.

Do far as best in concert.......mettallica hands down. Seen them both perform and tallica litterally almost brought the house down and this was only a few years ago!

First 5 albums they were on par. Megadeth since then as Metallica gets worse with each album.

And without Archie Manning, there would be no Peyton Manning. Not sure where those guys were going with that.

MEGADETH. I like both but Megadeth is my favorite. Metallica's older stuff (Ride The Lightning, Kill 'em All) is really good, but they just aren't the same as they used to be.

Only pre-self titled Metallica. But metallica nonetheless.
