It takes a couple of steps. One of the easiest ways is to insert the word "kiss" in front of "youtube" in the URL. In other words, change:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=zydZq2lVnns
to:
http://KISSyoutube.com/watch?v=zydZq2lVnns
That will take to a site where you can download the video, Remember, though, that after clicking on "DOWNLOAD" you have to give it a file name which ends in ".flv" [example: TWIN PEAKS in LEGO.flv]. This saves it to your hard drive in the folder you select as a flash video. That same site, and others offer a free flash video player which you can download to your PC.
You can convert .flv files to play on your IPOD. Additionally, there are utility programs that will allow you to convert flash video files to others like ".wmv" or ".mov" files so you don't have to download a flash video player.
Also remember, whatever site you use, like www.keepvid.com or www.kissyoutube.com, the youtube file name can only use the first eleven (11) characters after the equals sign (=) in the url. If the url contains the word "share" instead of "watch" you have to change that as well otherwise the conversion won't work. You will not be able to download YouTube files which are deemed for adults only.

That's crap. You totally can. Go to http://www.videodl.org. You can then put in the address of the YouTube video and it will give you a link to download the video to your computer. The format for the video is in .flv format which is Flash Video. You can download a flash video player, or a converter to make it another format like mpg or wmv on the internet.

1) Browse to the target video
2) Copy the text in the browser's address bar
3) Go to http://keepvid.com
4) Paste the text into the long textbox
5) Choose Youtube in the site list menu
6) Hit download to download it in .flv format
7) You'll need an flv player, there is a link at keepvid.com
