Yes of course it is. Both refer to colour - hair in one case, skin in the other. But I am allowed to call someone ginger. Weird.

There is nothing inherently offensive about the words "black", "white", "limey", "negro" , "paki", "chinky" etc - they are offensive only because some people have decided that they must be.

There shouldn`t be a problem with calling someone black if they are black.
As for the ginger thing well if it`s meant as an insult it`s just childish idiocy - it`s just a hair color after all.I really don`t see why people can`t accept redheads etc. without trying to abuse them just because of a hair colour.

No. Ginger people have red hair and black people have black skin. The two things rarely happen together.

It seems a strange question. I've never met a black person who took offence at being called black.

As far as I know we've never enslaved gingers, lynched gingers for being ginger, or written into the Constitution that gingers were fractional persons. There's no case law from 100 years ago giving a brunette the right to kill a ginger for backtalk.
So, no. Not really.

Are the two terms supposed to be derogatory?? depends on the context and who is saying it. There is nothing wrong with being either. So long as you are n't insulting anyone.
