My doctor said that my baby's head is big, and is in the 90% percentile. Her daddy has quite a large head. I am wondering how this will effect my delivery?? And I am afraid she wont look normal.

Has anyone else had a baby with a very large head?

Just wanted some feedback.

All 3 of my kids had very large heads (15+ inches), so 90% percentile and above. My first was delivered in 3 pushes, my 2nd in maybe 1 push, and my 3rd (who was also 1 1/2 pounds larger) in 3-4 pushes. Their heads were normal and they did not have coneheads or anything. However, I did tear quite a bit with my first. It wasn't horrible, but she worked for 25 minutes to stitch me up. The 2nd time I had 12 stitches and with my 3rd one I only had 1 or 2 stitches. I hope you have an easy delivery!

My son's head was 15 1/2 inches around and he was born with his fist by his temple. The only reason I had any tearing was because he gave me a punch on the way out. Very few stitches, healed quickly, baby's head was fine, no big cone. The cone depends on how long the baby is in the birth canal, and with proper pushing, it shouldn't be that long, and if it does cone, it will be round in no more than a day.
Best of Luck!

My daughters head is above the 90th percentile and she has a large fontanelle. I had no idea cause her head looks completely normal to me? When i found out i freaked out--started googling (worst mistake ever) When i talked to our doctor though it was no big deal, she just looked at her head, felt her soft spot and was like "yeah, completely normal" all that worrying for nothing! My advice: stay away from google, lol

My sister had a baby with a large head. It wasn't out-of-proportion or anything, but it just required the doctor to use forceps to assist with the delivery. I think you will be ok, please don't worry.

Remember, too, that ultrasounds are not a perfect science. Measurements are quite frequently off, sometimes by a lot.

My baby had a head in the 90th percentile and I had a 5 hour labor and pushed twice. Not everyone is the same.
