I would definitly have to recommend "We Were Soldiers". It is a great movie and is not as bloddy as "Saving Private Ryan".

Flags of our Fathers, although it's not an old war movie was absolutely incredible. It's Clint Eastwoods movie in English, I haven't seen the one he did in Japanese with English subtitles yet, but I hear it is also excellent.
Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Deer Hunter,Glory, Sargent York,
Alls Quiet on the Western Front, The Longest Day, A Bridge Too Far, Apocalypse Now, Das Boot (dubbed and Subtitled), PT 109, and for something different MASH and Catch 22.
Sorry, they are not listed by wars.
I am not a lover of blood, but some of these do have some blood, they are after all war movies, but they are not totally bloody, I would say Deer Hunter is about the worst, not in blood, but in topic. The last 2 are more on the comic side, but Catch 22 is a much better book than movie and is a little bloody, but not enough to upset a 16 year old.

To Hell and Back. this is the story of Brother Murphy the most decorated soldier in WWII. Brother Audie Murphy plays himself.
Tora - Tora - Tora - an interesting two sided view of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Devil's Brigade with William Holden - a semi - documentary about the forming of a Special Forces unit of U.S. and Canadian troops during WWII.

great movies recomended by NewZealander (but they may all have too much blood---although WAR is BLOODY)
Patton (WW2, not bloody)
Hamburger Hill ('Nam, language, graphic bloody)
Full Metal Jacket (WAIT 'til your 18!!!!!!!!!)
Platoon ('Nam, language, bloody)
Blackhawk Down (Somalia Conflict, true actual events very very graphic!!!)
All quiet on the Western Front (WWI 2 versions modern in color and classic older B/W is better)
Flyboys (one of the few movies about WWI made in the last 30-years, Good movie for a 16 year old girl)
There is a movie on HBO, Cinemax the past few days called American Soldiers (current Iraq conflict, bloody and not to bad)
