Line a plastic washing up bowl with tin foil, shiny side up. Cover base with bicarb and pour on hot water. Dip your necklace in this making sure it touches the foil and you will be amazed at how clean it gets. You can do all your other silver items as well as the stuff cleans for ages while the water is hot.

This past weekend I made the mistake of wearing my silver ring when I but my hands in a chemical that tarnished it
I took a glass cereal bowl but aluminum foil on the bottom, filled it with hot water, dropped in the ring and added about 1 Tbspn of Baking Soda.
Ring is like before the mistake let it sit for about an hour

To clean the stickiness off use soap (dish washing liquid will do) and a toothbrush.
To polish buy a silver polishing cloth. Its a light blue cloth that has a fine polishing compound impregnated on. You can buy it from larger supermarkets.

The toothpaste is good and a dealer at an antique store told me to use ketchup. Use with old toothbrush also.

i use that silver cleaning stuff you buy in any drug store, $2.99. its like a plastic tub with a dipping basket. dunk for 15 seconds and swish, thats what i do, and it comes out gleaming! however...........DO NOT USE THIS IF YOUR JEWELRY HAS PEARLS. IT WILL RUIN THEM. for that matter be careful with any gemstones. i would not use it for anything with gems.
