You're going to have pain after breaking a bone. The best thing you can do is rest the arm and let the bones heal. Ask your doctor for medication to help you deal with the pain.

Although the cast is not a painkiller it will help the pain. Your cast will keep your arm stabilized so that it can heal. It will (to a degree) protect it from being jostled or hit in a way that could move the bone causing pain. However pain from the bone growing back, itching and all those other lovely attributes of a broken bone and cast will not be solved by this.

Hope it helped!
