no seriously, I even just now went with my father (since I can't drive) and applied at McDonalds and the manager was like "we just hired like 11 or 12 people, so I probably will not be calling you for some weeks." And before that I went to Shoppers, but they said they just hired a lot of other people and are not hiring any more right now. I also went to do an interview at Six Flags after I filled out an application IN MARCH and they TOLD me to come in for an interview. I dressed nicely, brought a resume and a cover letter, and after waiting 3 hours for an "interview" I was merely told that they were reviewing my application and would be contacting me. No interview, no nothing. AND they STILL have not contacted me. And while waiting for an interview I even saw the most incompetent lowlife in jeans, a tshirt, and cap and they had actually HIRED HIM!!!I am fed up!!! I NEED a job, but no one will hire me!!! And I am 21 and in college:( WTF???:(( How do I get a job? For real:((

and I have never even had a paying job because I have been trying to get a job since high school and no place has ever hired me. I just need a job so my father and I who are both unemployed can have some money to move out of his mother's tiny basement where we have to stay with my cousin and her 3 young sons and my uncle. I just seriously do not know what to do anymore.

and I always have a positive attitude when going for a job, and I am just as kind as can be to everyone. And the degenerate guy I talked about had some of the most foul language I have ever heard. He could barely even speak straigt. And YET they still hired him and did NOT even hire me!!!

First of all, do you think your experience is unique? It's not. The facts are if you don't have a formal college or trade school education, it's going to be difficult to find a job, but for the jobs you're applying for, it shouldn't be as difficult as it is for you to find these types jobs.
I'm a buyer and billing clerk who sometimes has problems finding a job simply because the slightest downturn in sales or revenue for the company means a company will start laying employees off. Like another blogger on here said, there are way more employees than there are employers.
You just have to keep trying, and if you can work from home for an employer then jump on the opportunity, because employers love that as long as you bring in results, however it doesn't seem like you have very good clerical skills based on the formatting and grammar errors of your question essay. These skills are needed for clerical jobs.
The person in t-shirt and jeans, probably had qualifiations that an employer can't tell you about.
For example, was the t-shirt and jeans guy that applied at the job the same time you did and received a job offer FAT, or slim and attractive? Did he show good work experience, whereas you did not?
Are you FAT? This could be why you can't get a job. An employer will never tell you that you are FAT to your face, because this may violate discrimination laws
Do you speak clearly, or do yo speak with street talk and hip-hop slang? This doesn't work in the business world. People need to be able to understand you. And most people don't talk like that.
When you apply for a job do you demand too high of a salary or do you leave the salary offering open?
And please stop bringing your dad to your interviews. This does not look good. I can't believe your dad wouldn't tell you this. What kind of father is this????
Also read what Talaupa wrote. He's "on the mark" too.

It's probably because of your lack of experience. Depending on your age, most employers, prefer that the employee have a bit of experience. The experience doesn't necessarily have to relate to the position that you are applying for, they just want an employee to have the experience of having the responsibility of holding a job. This includes, but is not limited to, being dependable, punctual, and gertting along well with co-workers. You may have to beef up your resume a little bit.
Secondly, your appearance plays a dominant role. Remember: "You only get ONE chance to make a first impression." How's your hair? Is it suitable for the places you're applying? Is it clean? Is it too long? Does your hair seem to be a safety hazard--like being so long that it can get caught in machinery? Is it green, dreads, spikes mohawks? Personally, I don't have anything against these styles, but some employers do.
How are you dressed? Are you overly dressed? Underdressed? You shouldn't go to an interview at McDonald's wearing a suit and tie and you shouldn't apply for a position as a telephone receptionist wearing dirty jeans Above all, you shouldn't go to any interview wearing DIRTY jeans. By the way, are your nails clean?
Make sure everything is complete on your application. If some things don't apply to you fill it in with "NA" (not apply) to ensure the employer that you didn't overlook any questions. (Like: Have you served in the Armed Forces?)
Make sure that you print neatly and spell words correctly. Also, make certain that all words are properly spelled on your resume.
Finally, during the interview, maintain good eye contact with the interviewer, and always give a FIRM (not tight) handshake at the end of the interview.
Check out some websites for further information.
Don't give up--be persistant. Someone is bound to hire you.
Good Luck!!!

I have never seen such horrible advice from a group of people before. I mean geez, just no help at all. I doubt most of you have even been in his situation yet you feel obligated to give your horrible opinions. The guy is in a hard situation and frustrated, and you act as if he shouldn't be, and that's why he isn't getting employed.
Considering I have been in this type of situation, it might help a little more. The truth of the matter is, most employment is based on the luck of the draw and knowing someone. Employers for the most part don't like hiring new people, and like to avoid the process as much as possible until it's completely required. Because of this, the best way to get a job is to know someone already working there. Half the work is done for the employer, and if someone can vouch for you will most likely get the job. There are many ways to do this, one is just going down to the business and talking to people working there and get to know them. This is where being friendly comes in handy. The low life guy who was hired, probably had a friend who referred him or had previous experience at another park. Also try not to bring a resume and a cover letter to jobs paying minimum wage. Makes you look over qualified, and a person who will leave as soon as something better comes along.
Now beyond that, you'll also want to try going to carrer fairs or job fairs whenever there is one out. Usually there is some type every week. These are great because employers actually go out looking for employees at these events, and you actually get a 1 on 1 interview so you can really sell yourself well. Temp agencies are good as well if your desperate, and are a good source of experience. Only problem I have is they get you $15 a hour jobs, and then pay you $9-10 bucks a hour.
Now for the interview process, I suggest not going to an interview as if you were trying to get a job. Try to be relaxed, be serious but not too serious, above all else don't make it look like your desperate for a job. Employers are looking for good employees but they are also looking for people who will work well with them and others. So approach interviews as if your meeting new friends and want to impress them.
But the best advice I can give is this, don't ask idiots on yahoo answers for advice. Go to the places you wanna work and actually ask employees there how they got their job. Ask family and friends in the working world how they were able to get their jobs. Ask employers and managers what it takes to get a job at their business. All this asinine tripe about needing a car and not having your father drop you off to interviews is just nonsense. Employers are looking for people who need jobs, can work well with others, and can do their job right and be on time, they don't care if you don't have a car or if your father is dropping you off.

I have 8 years experience as a CNC machinst, I can MIG and TIG weld almost anything, and I have my class A CDL drivers license. It still takes a while to find a good job. There are way more employees than there are employers. Just keep filling out applications and keep looking in different directions. Going down the same path doesn't get you anywhere you haven't already been. This time of year everybody is getting out of school so the job market is flooded with people.

I am not going to say you have a poor attitude cause I do not know you, but the jealousy you express about the "degenerate" (as you call him) getting the job over you does give me a glimpse of your attitude! apparently he must have some qualification they were seeking or displayed an attitude they liked if they hired him.
Don't give up, keep trying! Once you have applied for a job you should call back in 2-3 days and ask if you are being considered for employment. I have got several jobs this way in the past.
Another option you may wish to consider is working for a temp service. Look some of them up in your local yellow pages, call them and see what they can do!
And remember this, you do not have to like a particular job in order to make money at it, if you do find a job and you do not like it, keep it until you find a new one, it helps to have a continuous job record!
Good luck!

You are 21, you have no car and you have never had a job. I hire people for a living. Why would I want to hire you over someone with a job history and a way to work? Im not trying to be hard on you, just explaining. A 21 year old that has to have their parents drive them to work just looks really bad.
Now, you said you are in college, there are people that work at that college whose only job is to help students find work. I would suggest meeting with them.
Another option, its summer, you could always mow lawns. My 13 year old son made over 6 grand last year mowing lawns. That would be more than enough to buy a car.

Hard question. Maybe your not filling out your application properly. Have a friend or family member who has a job help you fill out an application. Keep a copy of it for future reference. Maybe you can start your own business. I did. You can go to http://robinsongsgifts.com and check out their products. They sell wholesale. Maybe you can be a vendor or if you want a salesperson that sells to vendors and stores. If you request they will send you a catalog and price lists also. What I do is show people and stores the catalog, I get their order and money, my profit is already included, then I order from that company. So it doesn't cost me any out of pocket money. I make a pretty decent living at doing this. Just go to the site and ask them to send you a catalog and some price list. good luck
Another thing you can do is go to an employment agency, they will help you find a job, or ask friends who have jobs to get you a job where they work. Sometimes it helps to know somebody just to get your foot in the door.

Well the first thing you need to do is get a license. Most places don't hire because of this. I hope you are not giving them a big sad story because they don't care. When you do go for an interview don't be to dressy unless it is professional work. You may try Wal-Mart, not good benefits but will at least get you started. Try all the fast food places too.

Gosh, I certainly understand your frustration. My husband had a great job, upper management for a trucking company and he got laid of 2 months ago. he has lots of experience and he can't even get a job as a truck driver! He's fully licensed, has all the experience, knowledge and expertise it takes, but NO ONE will even call him back! It's frustrating to see a low life in jeans take the job you should have. All you can really do is keep on trying, keep following up at places, call them back and keep trying for more. Never loose faith. I'm sorry you are having such a tough time. I hope you find something soon!

Honestly alot of it has to do with how you filled out the application given to you, how your resume looks and how you answered the questions during the interview and how you carried yourself before and after the interview as well.
I worked as a career counselor and if you want some more indepth advice please feel free to contact me at latinaprincess7813@yahoo.com with a copy of your resume and I will look over it and see if there are anythings that need to be changed/fixed. I can also give you some pointers to make your application stand out as well as during the interview process.
